Logbook of changes in the Humboldt Lab
On 5 May 2023, the research team at Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) invites all interested citizens to the Humboldt Lab for the free event "Learning from the pandemic? Citizen Science for Sustainable Change" to present and discuss the results. Following three online workshops with logbook writers, a broader interested audience is now being invited.
Insights into the research results will be provided and discussions on the following questions will be initiated: What creative potential did the coronavirus pandemic generate? What skills can we take away from the coronavirus pandemic and can they support sustainable development? And how should we continue with the "Logbook of Change"?
The citizen science project "Logbook of Change" has now been running for more than three years. By the end of 2022, more than 600 citizens had documented their observations of the changes brought about by the coronavirus pandemic in over 1,400 logbook entries. All of these observations of everyday life have accompanied the research team in their research activities since then and have been viewed from different perspectives.
In February and March 2023, the results were presented to the participating logbook writers in online workshops and interpreted together. This allowed the citizen science approach to be expanded and interested citizens to be more closely involved in the research process. Now the findings are to be presented to a wider audience in a different format and discussed further.
Interested parties can secure a free ticket on the Humboldt Lab website.
The event is taking place as part of the project module "Co-Interpretation & Communication - Interpreting and communicating joint research results with citizen scientists", which is funded by the Hans Sauer Foundation.
The "Logbook of Changes" is still open. With the third Corona winter, everyday observations will also be documented in connection with other crises. Citizens can document pseudonymised everyday changes due to current crises. It is not possible to draw conclusions about the logbook writers.
Quotes from the logbook of changes:
"First trip since 2017 due to the pandemic. Seemed so out of practice, missed the flight and connecting flight. With the help of my daughter, flew a few hours later via a different flight route, arrived at the booked hotel at midnight. After sightseeing, travelled on by bus and arrived at my daughter's surf camp two hours later. Then continued my journey by bus, using public transport as I have done for years." (07.03.2023)
"[...] I find that my vocabulary and fluency have changed, for the worse. In other words, I can't think of words that I don't use at home and in family communication, and sentence structure in speech, including purposeful speech, is significantly less "elegant" and "beautiful" than before the lockdowns. I think I've noticed this in other people too. [...]" (01.03.2023)
About the [Sustainability - Transformation - Transfer] Research Centre
The Research Centre [Sustainability - Transformation - Transfer] at HNEE pursues the goal of strengthening the university's cooperation with actors from society and practice in order to contribute to the transformation of society towards sustainability (sustainability transformation). Transfer for sustainable development in the context of practice-university cooperation is seen as a central approach to this (sustainability transfer). The research centre is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture (MWFK) of the State of Brandenburg.
