Ceremonial awarding of the Germany Scholarships
The annual award ceremony for the Deutschlandstipendium took place yesterday at the University of Sustainable Development Eberswalde (HNEE), where the scholarship holders were awarded and had the opportunity to meet some of the sponsors in person. In the current funding year 2023/24, 13 donors together with the federal government are donating a total of 37 Deutschlandstipendien for the students of the university.

Very good academic performance and social commitment are the main criteria for awarding the Deutschlandstipendium, half of which is financed by donations from companies, individuals or foundations. The other half is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
"With your commitment, you are making an important and valuable contribution to our high-achieving students, whom we so urgently need to shape a sustainable society." With these words, University President Prof. Dr. Matthias Barth thanked the sponsors at the ceremony in the auditorium on the city campus. In his welcoming speech, he emphasised that a Deutschlandstipendium is much more than just proof of academic achievement: "Seek contact and network with your sponsors, dear scholarship holders," the university president urged the students. Getting to know each other is an important part of the award ceremony, also to get into conversation with the sponsors about internships and topics for theses.
The HNEE has been involved in the national funding programme since it began in 2011. So far, about 420 scholarships have been awarded, which corresponds to a funding amount of about 1.5 million euros. The 37 recipients, who were selected from 156 applicants, each receive 300 euros per month for one year. Fifteen scholarship holders from the Department of Forestry and Environment, 11 from the Department of Landscape Use and Conservation, 2 from the Department of Wood Engineering and 9 from the Department of Sustainable Business are supported. The support is income-independent and does not count towards the BAföG (Federal Training Assistance Act).
Many of the sponsors have been supporting the HNEE for several years or have been involved from the very beginning. The university would like to thank the sponsors for their commitment to the students: GLG Gesellschaft für Leben und Gesundheit mbH, Ostdeutscher Sparkassenverband (OSV), Prof. Dr. Sebastian Turner, Ingenieurbüro Dieme, Ursula and Günther Deininger and Wissenschaftsstiftung der Sparkasse Barnim.
