Programme zukunftswoche2021
Looking forward to the jointly initiated zukunftswoche2021: Mayor of the city of Eberswalde Friedhelm Boginski, Managing Director of Kreiswerke Barnim Christian Mehnert and the new President of HNEE Prof. Dr. Matthias Barth (top from left) and the organisational team of the three partner institution
The three heads of the partner institutions came together for a press conference to kick off the jointly organised theme week from 13-19 September 2021, which builds on previous individual formats of the three organisers and aims to highlight the broad commitment of regional players, projects and initiatives for climate protection, sustainability and a future-proof region. Christian Mehnert as Managing Director of Kreiswerke Barnim, Friedhelm Boginski as Mayor of the City of Eberswalde and Prof. Dr Matthias Barth, the new President of Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) since 1 September, are meeting for the first time for this purpose.
Prof. Dr Barth and Mayor Mr Boginski emphasise the importance of this first-time cooperation: "The zukunftswoche is a direct result of the last HNEE Sustainability Days. During a panel discussion, we as the university and the city came to the realisation that we can achieve significantly more if we join forces in our respective efforts for climate protection and sustainability." A future festival that was actually planned as a large joint face-to-face event in Eberswalde had to be cancelled in 2020 and this year due to the pandemic situation, but will hopefully be held next year.
The expansion to a hybrid event week will in turn benefit a larger target group in Barnim, which Christian Mehnert, Managing Director of Kreiswerke as the third partner in the group, is pleased about: "As Kreiswerke, we bear responsibility for sustainable development and renewable energies in Barnim and work together with many partners in the district. It is important to us not only to make our actions transparent in line with Barnim's zero-emissions strategy, but also to approach Barnim initiatives and citizens who are working on a sustainable Barnim at other levels. Only by working together can we bring about sustainable change on the ground."
The website www.zukunftswoche.de now offers an insight into a diverse programme during the week, put together by a wide range of regional sustainability stakeholders. Interested parties are cordially invited to take part in the activities and events presented, such as lectures, city walks, bike tours, film screenings, a science slam or a joint waste collection campaign. In addition, the website and the accompanying social media channels offer various contributions on sustainability projects and initiatives from Barnim and the surrounding area.
