Award-winning mobile: UCKER Warentakt project wins national competition
The project "UCKER goods cycle - regional transport offer" was honoured on 28 October 2021 for its successful cooperation to improve mobility in rural areas. It was developed and implemented by the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) and the Uckermärkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (UVG). The competition was part of the Shaping the Region" programme and was initiated by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI) and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR).

Being mobile is a prerequisite for participating in social and economic life. In order to solve mobility problems, co-operation is often crucial - especially in rural regions. The Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) and the Uckermärkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (UVG) have joined forces as partners and taken on this challenge with the UCKER Warentakt project.
On 28 October 2021, the project received an award for its successful implementation in the form of cooperation. A jury with representatives from science, research, transport and administration selected the 20 best mobility projects from a total of 45 applications. Dr Markus Kerber, State Secretary at the BMI, praised the commitment of the winners: "The cooperation projects honoured in the competition are leading the way and showing what mobility can look like nationwide! The future has already been put into practice here. We want to honour this and encourage others to follow suit!"
UCKER Warentakt delivers goods from regional retailers and producers and picks up returns on the way back. Orders and returns are transported in an environmentally friendly way using regular UVG buses. This service is free of charge for residents of the localities involved in the project. The aim of the UCKER Warentakt is to contribute to regional value creation with an innovative approach and thus increase the quality of life in the region.
There was also a special prize for the UCKER Warentakt and two other winning projects: information on the respective project was published in the online reference work for mobility solutions "Mobilikon" with a short film. "The successfully implemented cooperation projects can also set a precedent in other municipalities," adds the head of the BBSR, Dr Markus Eltges. "Mobilikon uses these and many other examples to show how such measures improve local mobility. The online reference work describes the measures very clearly in order to support those responsible in local authorities in implementing similar projects."
