A joint memorandum of understanding was signed with the University of Saskatchewan on 4 December 2023

On 4 December 2023, Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) welcomed Prof. Dr Baljit Singh, Vice President for Research at the University of Saskatchewan (USask), to sign a joint Memorandum of Understanding. HNEE has been working with USask for a long time as part of the TRANSSECTS - The Transdisciplinary Education Collaboration for Transformations in Sustainability project and the DAAD-funded HAW International Internationalisation 2.0 project to promote cooperation with biosphere reserves worldwide and to jointly implement "Transdisciplinary International Learning Laboratories (TILLs)".

The meeting took place in HNEE's StartupLab. In addition to the President of HNEE, Prof. Dr Matthias Barth, Lena Höhne, Student Vice President of HNEE, Prof. Dr Heike Walk, TRANSECTS Country Director Germany, Dr Ana Filipa Ferreira, Managing Director Biosphere Reserves Institute, Jana Gengelbach, TRANSECTS Programme Manager, Manuela Pelz, International Office, and Saleem Haddad, Research Assistant TRANSECTS, also took part from HNEE. During the three-hour meeting, in addition to the signing of the MoU, the further cooperation between HNEE and USask was discussed in detail and framed by input presentations from Prof. Barth, Prof. Walk, Dr Ana Filipa Ferreira and Prof. Singh.

Prof Dr Baljit Singh is a highly qualified researcher and teacher in the field of veterinary medicine. He has been Vice President of Research at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) since 2021. Previously, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary (2016-2020) and as Associate Dean of Research at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan (2010-2016). He was also Special Advisor (Experiential Learning) to the Vice-Chancellor (2010-2012) at the University of Saskatchewan and a member of the advisory panel for the Canadian federal research funding system.

Dr Singh received the 3M National Teaching Fellowship (2009), the Alan Blizzard National Award for Collaboration in University Teaching and Learning (2010), the University of Saskatchewan Master Teacher Award (2008), and the Carl J. Norden Distinguished Teacher Award (2003). He also received the Outstanding Veterinary Anatomist Award from the American Association of Veterinary Anatomists (2015) and the Pfizer Award for Research Excellence (2002). He was named a Fellow of the American Association of Anatomists (2013) and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2018).
