What: Discussion event with Brandenburg's Environment and Agriculture Minister Axel Vogel

When: Thursday, 8 December 2022 from 4:30 pm

Setting up as a farmer in Brandenburg? Not easy! The soil in the Mark is poor, investments are high, the structures of the upstream and downstream sectors are rather weak and widely distributed. Nevertheless, there are well-trained and highly motivated young farmers who want to get started. Providing them with targeted support means giving farming in the region a future, promoting innovation and making rural areas more vibrant. But what are the best political means to achieve this?

We bring practitioners and politicians together and debate the following questions:

  • What is the need for support from a practitioner's perspective?
  • What do start-up bonuses achieve?
  • Do mentoring and counselling help?
  • How can access to land and capital be made easier?

Discussing on the podium:

  • Axel Vogel, Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection of the State of Brandenburg
  • Dr Marianne Nobelmann, independent consultant and lecturer at HNEE
  • Maria Mundry, agricultural business founder, Ostprignitz-Ruppin Farmers' Association
  • Jobst Jungehülsing, Head of the Land Market Department at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture (BMEL)
  • Johann Gerdes, agricultural business founder, spokesperson for AbL Nord-Ost
  • Martin Zschoche, agricultural business founder, spokesperson for AbL Saxony-Anhalt

The event will be moderated by Stefanie Awater-Esper, top agrar and can probably also be followed online. Prior to the event, the Farm Handover Contact Forum of the Organic Young Farmers' Network will take place at HNEE.
